A new addition to the Empirical Style team.

Posted on November 15, 2012

We don’t do things by half around here. This year as we were growing the Empirical Style business we were also growing our family! Our baby girl Henry Milla was born ten days ago. Below is an incredible German chart from the 1960′s showing the labour process- a bit of a likeness I think!

What the hell is this?

Steve’s slight obsession with all charts medical/scientific/anatomical can actually leave me a little creeped out. I mean what the hell is the chart below of? It’s colouring and detail are stunning, the German’s certainly get that right in the 60′s. However I was a little lost as to what it might actually be an illustration of?

Empirical Styles little helper.

At 8.30am every morning our postman arrives. And yes he knows us VERY well! We actually do most of our shopping online these days so we practice what we preach. Between my purchaces and Steve’s product sourcing, our two year old thinks the postman is a constant supplier of goodies.

Look at what arrived this week. A beautiful London Bus Scroll in electric yellow. Available in the shop soon I envy the persons wall that this will adorn.

I’m often taking snaps of new products on Instagram if you’d like to follow us: Empirical Style.

Vanuatu.

Posted on September 14, 2012

The Melbourne winter is slowly coming to an end. Slowly being the operative word- it’s been a long one!

This winter we headed a few hours flight from Australia to Vanuatu. Travelling with three other families that live in different states we thought the best way to see each other was to have a family friendly holiday together. Eight adults, four kids under four and two in uetero headed to a house right on the beach in the pacific. Thanks to Fil who documented the events so I didn’t even pull out my camera.

Golden glow.

We are a big bulb mad here. All kinds of shapes and sizes, warm to cool, modern to vintage. If you are looking for the perfect bulb, I’m pretty certain Steve would be able to find it for you.

The edison bulbs are hugely popular in New York where we first saw them years ago. Here in Australia they are steadily increasing in popularity and are popping up in many a cool bar or restaurant fit out.

Having lived with them for years and in every room when the sun goes down i still never tire of their beautiful golden glow.

Rock n Roll royalty with an empirical style.

Posted on July 5, 2012

We always find it quite  funny and lovely when some customers visit our showroom and gush about how much they loved seeing Steve on Top Design. We however are equally excited when famous faces are in our home wanting to look at our Empirical Style wares. Today we were blessed with rock n roll royalty Tex Perkins purchasing the Sundew chart as a present! But now he’s gone ‘and the honeymoon is over baby..’!
